| My name is Timothy Charles Zaine Quinton Baker. I prefer to be called T.C. or Tim. |
|
I was born in Freeport, Texas in 1972 and raised in Angleton, Texas. I started taking pictures at what I considered an early age. Armed with a Kodak pocket 110 camera, I started documenting the life of friends and the prettiest girl in 5th grade at the age of 11. |
| I am a brother to three sisters, and an uncle to six nephews and nieces. I have no children of my own, however I take full responsibility for my wife's son Zane. |
| The youngest of my sisters played a major role in shaping my career. Patti served as the 1983-84 editor of the Angleton High School Tattler in Angleton, Texas. |
| Before entering high school, I sat through a journalism recruiting session and decided I wanted to pursue photography. I stuck with photography all through high school, and even took another basic photo course while I was an exchange student to Goulburn, NSW, Australia in 1989. After returning to the states to finish high school, I rejoined the Angleton High journalism dept. It was my senior year and I was honored to be the CO-head photographer of the Angle (yearbook), Tattler (newspaper), Inside AISD (district news letter), as well as CO-head advertising manager for the Angle. Yes, I was quite busy. |
| I remember my break into the professional newspaper business like it was yesterday. I had just finished covering the 1989 Brazoria County Fair Queen Coronation Ceremony and was following a pro, from the local "big daily," (The Brazosport Facts) around. He was shooting feature photos of the rides and exhibits. He asked if I might be interested in working for the paper as a lab tech over the Christmas Holidays. They, The Brazosport Facts, were loosing two people to vacations. I was thrilled and said I would love the chance. Next thing I remember, I was meeting the photo editor from The Facts at a football playoff game in the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. He was shooting the game and approached me about the position. He asked me to come in with my portfolio for an interview. To cut it short, I got the job in December 1989. I started one week prior to Christmas and was kept until offered a job by a smaller sister paper in March. I left The Facts to become the lonely photographer at The Angleton Times. I left the Times a little over a year later to try my hand at portrait and studio photography. That lasted a month? After a few years of not really finding anything to inspire me like photojournalism, I stumbled into a position as lab tech at The Brazosport Facts (again). I served less than a year as tech when the chief photographer left and I was promoted to staff photographer. I stuck with it and one year later almost to the week, I took a job at The Victoria Advocate where I am currently working as a staff photographer. |
