Although the '99 hurricane season had been quiet for the first two months, Hurricane Bret caught everyone's attention. Riding out a hurricane can be like solving a murder mystery. You just never know till it's all over.

Hurricane Bret churned up the gulf waters bringing surfers from all over to take their turns cutting the waves. A husband and wife look out over the Gulf of Mexico in Surfside, Texas as Hurricane Bret approaches the Texas Coast. Bret made landfall Sunday evening August 22, 1999 in Kennedy County, Texas.
